Nuno Espirito Santo wants Nottingham Forest to have a “outstanding” international goalkeeper.

Matt Turner was the top player when Espirito Santo first joined the team and appeared to be the top player at the start of the season.

But after a series of well-publicized missteps, the head coach decided to make the switch, and Odysseas Vlachodimos didn’t exactly wow either.

The summer transfer deadline saw the Greek international join from Benfica. However, he struggled to make an impact in his first five Premier League appearances.

Following his £5 million summer signing from Strasbourg, Matz Sels is currently the top player. Sels, who played for Belgium last month and received great reviews, will start goalkeeping this season.

But now that a well-known connection to Forest has surfaced once more, Espirito Santo is eager to see the player at the City Ground this summer.

Espirito Santo appears to want Forest to look again for a goalkeeper, and he seems to favor Kelleher, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old is eager to begin playing football regularly, thus it is highly likely that he will depart Liverpool in the summer.

The Republic of Ireland international has also been linked to Celtic, and both teams could likely provide frequent action.

Kelleher might be a long-term star of City Ground.
Kelleher’s performance in the Carabao Cup final this season has earned him a longer stint with the Liverpool club.

Alisson made eight straight Premier League starts while out by injury, but he was once again on the bench on Sunday.

Kelleher is adored by Jurgen Klopp, who praised him for his bravery early in the 2023–24 season, calling him “outstanding.”

This does feel like a similar situation to the one with Dean Henderson last summer. This time Forest simply can’t afford to make the same mistakes.

Forest didn’t feel the money was worth it for Henderson and now whilst he stars at Crystal Palace, the Reds fight relegation again.

A younger, more trustworthy keeper is required going forward and in our view, Turner and Vlachodimos are surplus to requirements.

Kelleher is the sort of goalkeeper who at 25 could star for many years at Forest and his valuation could rise.

It’s unlikely that the player will cost a fortune in the grand scheme of things and hopefully, Forest can move quickly for Kelleher if Premier League football is secured.
