Brighton is preparing to make a move for another inexpensive, former Barcelona talent.

Brighton are one of the most astute clubs in the world when it comes to the transfer market. This was on full display when they signed Marc Cucurella from Getafe for under £15 million in 2022. The Seagulls appear to be on the market for another former Barcelona fullback at a low cost.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Brighton are preparing to sign left back Juan Miranda. The 24-year-old’s contract with Real Betis in Spain expires at the conclusion of the season, allowing the Seagulls to sign him for free this summer.

Miranda, a Barcelona academy graduate, has emerged as one of La Liga’s most promising young full-backs since joining Betis on loan in 2020. He has one goal and two assists in 25 matches for Los Verdiblancos this season.

According to reports, the Spaniard is on the radar of several prominent European clubs.

Last January, he came close to signing with AC Milan.According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Milan was “one step away” from signing Miranda before abruptly changing their transfer strategy following the acquisition of iconic Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The massive Swede is apparently “increasingly central” to Milan’s transfer decisions. It’s unlikely that the club will pursue Miranda again.

With the Italian heavyweights out of the picture, Brighton appear to be the leading candidates to sign Miranda this summer. However, Benfica and Ajax are also keeping an eye on the 24-year-old.

If Brighton acquire Miranda, they will gain an aggressive left back and much-needed backup for Pervis Estupiñán. Miranda, 24, has the potential to contend with Estupiñán for Brighton’s starting left back position if he performs well on the South Coast, similar to Cucurella.
