Why Kendrick Perkins now views Celtics as ‘best team in the NBA’
Kendrick Perkins has gained a devoted following thanks to the Boston Celtics.
The former centre for the Celtics, who started for their NBA championship squad in 2007–08,
is embracing the excitement following Boston’s 3–1 finish on its West Coast road trip,
which included thrilling back-to-back victories over the Lakers and Clippers.
On Tuesday on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, Perkins stated,
“The Celtics proved to me and the rest of the world that they’re the best team in the NBA.”
And this isn’t simply based on what they did to the Lakers on Monday.
I refer to the clean sweep that occurred in Los Angeles.
They put the Clippers on the brakes before entering the game and performing their magic (against the Lakers).
“Look, that starting five with Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White,
Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum is so exciting.”
And I am aware of everyone who is criticising them and saying they make too many threes.Count me among them.
However, I have faith in both their perimeter defence and their 3-point shooting.
It should be favoured for this team to win everything.
The Celtics offence went into overdrive after losing badly in overtime to the Golden State Warriors to begin the trip,
averaging 138 points in the final three games.
132-126 loss at Warriors
144-119 win at Kings
145-108 win at Clippers
126-115 win at Lakers
At 23-6, the Celtics have the best record in the league.
They won 14-0 at TD Garden to maintain their home court unbeaten status.
They and the Philadelphia 76ers are the only two teams in the top five in both offensive and defensive ratings.
There are numerous ways for the Celtics to win a game.
They are athletic enough to prevail in a fast-paced,
run-and-gun match. They rank first in the NBA in 3-pointers made,
therefore they can outshoot most teams. In a hard, physical game,
they can prevail. For the first time in a long time,
the Celtics have a dependable low-post scorer thanks to the acquisition of veteran centre Kristaps Porzingis.
Injuries and self-inflicted blunders are the team’s biggest impediments on the path to a title,
but this squad could use a little more depth,
particularly in the frontcourt given Porzingis’ injury history and Horford’s age.
This Celtics club should be a strong favourite to win Banner 18 in June if they enter the playoffs completely healthy.
