Adrian Martinez and Matthew McKay, two rookie quarterbacks, were worked out by the Steelers. Martinez, a dual threat, was a Nebraska and Kansas State college football player.

Martinez gained 627 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in his final year of college, while also passing for 1,261 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. This season, the 6’2, 220-pound passer has been a member of the Detroit Lions practice squad.

Similar to Martinez, McKay is a dangerous runner who attended NC State, Montana State, and Elon during his collegiate football career.

In his final season of collegiate football, the 6’4″, 212-pound quarterback passed for 2,690 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions while also adding 458 yards and three additional touchdowns on the ground.

Pittsburgh tested out two additional rookies at wide receiver, Keilahn Harris and Xavier “Zay” Malone. Malone was a collegiate football player at Henderson State, where in 2022 he caught 67 passes for 1,382 yards and 15 touchdowns.

This season, the quick 5’9, 180-pound receiver played for the Atlanta Falcons. Harris was formerly a Falcon as well. During his time as an Oklahoma Baptist player in 2022, the 5’10, 180-pound receiver caught 80 passes for 1,050 yards and seven touchdowns.

Three offensive tackles—Hunter Thedford, Devery Hamilton, and Tyler Beach—were also worked out by the Steelers. Beach attended Wisconsin to play collegiate football. In 2022, the 6’6″, 290-pound lineman started nine games as tight end and guard.

Coaches named him an honorable mention for the 2021 Big Ten team. During his collegiate career, Hamilton started at both guard and tackle positions while playing football for Stanford and Duke. The 6’6″, 311-pound lineman has been a member of the practice squads for the Giants and Raiders.
