SANTA CLARA — The NFL’s top linebacker tandems may belong to the two teams who play each other
on Monday night at Levi’s Stadium.
Naturally, Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw of the 49ers are on one side. Additionally, the Baltimore Ravens have two outstanding
players of their own in Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen.
“We constantly monitor the performance of other linebackers in the league,” stated Warner, who was selected to the Pro Bowl and All-
Pro thrice. “I’m really respectful of Patrick and Roquan.
“They are playing the game precisely as it should be played. Thus, our offense must always be aware of their location.
Last season, Smith was traded by the Chicago Bears to the Ravens in the middle of the season.
His résumé includes one selection to
the Pro Bowl and one All-Pro. Queen has played for the team for four seasons, averaging well over 100 tackles every season.
When he started delving further into getting ready to play the Ravens, Smith and Queen were the first players coach Kyle Shanahan
mentioned. He claimed that they bring to mind Warner and Greenlaw.
“I think those two guys stand out the most and are the most like our guys that I’ve seen in a few years and this year,” Shanahan
remarked. “Those two men, in my opinion, are what keep the defense going. They’re large. Not simply because they are large, but also
because that is how they intend to run and hit.
