Thomas Ramos called out for ‘violent’ act on Marcus Smith during Champions Cup match
On Sunday, the Harlequins welcomed Toulouse, the five-time European Champions, to The Stoop.
The host team was unable to match the intensity that the visitors brought to the arena.
With a commanding 47-19 victory,
the defending Top 14 champions preserved their pristine record in the Investec Champions Cup this season,
giving the hosts plenty of defensive improvement opportunities leading up to Christmas.
The French squad performed with spellbinding moments and proved to be a tough opponent for Harlequins,
who had already defeated Racing 92 with great style in the opening round.
Toulouse is regarded by many as the favourite to win the competition once more,
especially in light of the southern French team’s superior strength.
Thomas Ramos, a natural fullback,
moved to the fly-half position to cover for the injured Romaine Ntamack.
He moved between the two positions with apparent ease,
collaborating well with scrum half Antoine Dupont to repeatedly
expose a misfiring Harlequins defence.
But during the game, many people were drawn to
Ramos’ inventive tug-of-war with opposing ten Marcus Smith,
as their banter got fiercer with every last minute of play.
Despite being well-liked in their own communities,
neither player appeared to have much time for the other.
Smith appeared to be accusing Ramos of diving one moment,
and then he was seemingly being beaten by Ramos the next.
After the game, there was a physical fight in which Smith was thrown to the ground,
and many people expressed their opinion that the Frenchman should be suspended for his behaviour.
If Ramos is found to have struck the England playmaker with his forearm,
he may receive a lengthy suspension.
