At the sound of the final whistle, as Rangers beat Real Betis 3-2 in Seville,

Kenny Miller couldn’t help but celebrate the financial gain

the Ibrox club will receive from their European progress.

The former Gers man suggested the money gained could go

towards investments into the squad to support Philippe Clement in the January transfer window.

Miller said the win would be historic for Rangers,

securing a late victory against a top side to progress from the Europa League group stage

with every player on the pitch stepping up.

Miller exclaimed, “There’s real financial gain for the club,

there’s already talk about investments and what’s going to happen with the squad in January,”

during a live interview on TNT Sports [14 December] after the game.

This may provide a small financial boost to assist them in that direction.

“However, don’t discount the performance tonight.

A lot of attention was paid to the players’ absences and injuries,

but every player who took the pitch contributed to the historic win over a very talented team.”

A historic victory for the Rangers

Even if the win may not be among Rangers’ most significant,

thrilling, or noteworthy in their illustrious past,

the circumstances surrounding it will ensure that the supporters

especially those who travelled to Seville—will remember it for a very long time.

These players provided supporters a new memory to carry with them from Spain,

just a few years after the heartbreaking final in the same city.

Despite facing an injury crisis and losing twice after taking the lead,

they managed to secure all three points.

Theoretically, Rangers will have a more advantageous draw and avoid

the additional game in February where teams in second place will

play clubs that were eliminated from their Champions League groups if they advance as group winners.

Rangers’ confidence will soar for the remainder of the season

knowing that they can compete with and defeat elite teams in Europe,

and the financial benefits can aid Clement in moulding his team to fit his vision.
