The owners of Villa believe that their agreement with a

US-based investment business will improve the team’s capacity to compete in Europe and the Premier League.

Under the terms of the deal, Atairos would purchase a minority share in V Sports,

the holding company of Villa, which is owned by the billionaire pair Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

V Sports also has agreements with numerous other clubs worldwide including an

interest in the Portuguese team Vitoria.

Sawiris and Edens said that Atairos,

which was established in 2016 and asserts to have more than £5 billion in equity capital,

shares their “compelling vision for the future of the club and our passion for football”

in a statement announcing the deal.

“This exciting partnership strengthens the club’s ability to compete in

England and Europe and enhances its financial footing,” they went on.

“V Sports looks forward to Aston Villa FC’s future growth and success

and is completely committed to increased investment in the club’s men’s and women’s teams.”

When Sawiris and Edens rescued Villa from the verge of bankruptcy in 2018,

they have subsequently invested over £500 million in the team.

A year after winning promotion from the Championship,

Villa kept rising, and they are now in third place in the Premier League.

The owners will continue to spend,

but Atairos’ contribution should support important initiatives

like the proposed £100 million renovation of Villa Park,

which will see the North Stand entirely rebuilt and expand the stadium’s capacity above 50,000.

“Aston Villa is a historic football club with an exceptional management team

and significant growth potential,” stated Michael Angelakis,

chairman and CEO of Atairos.

We firmly believe that both the men’s and women’s teams of Aston Villa and

the Premier League have the capacity to flourish internationally over the long run.

“We are excited to work with Nassef and Wes and have a lot of respect for Aston Villa’s leadership.

“We are eager to help the club reach even higher levels by

leveraging our experience in assisting companies in the sports, leisure, and live entertainment sectors.”

Apart from its ownership of Vitoria, V Sports maintains affiliations with a multitude of teams,

such as Real Union of Spain, ZED FC of the Egyptian Premier League, and Vissel Kobe,

the newly crowned champions of the Japanese J1 League.

In the event that the Premier League approves the Atairos deal,

Sawiris and Edens will still hold 100% of the shares and authority of Villa.
