Leicester wants to sign a “fearless” defender from rival Championship teams.
Expressing gratitude for Leicester City’s strong recovery from Premier League
relegation would be an understatement. Under newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca,
the Foxes have lived up to lofty expectations, setting themselves up to
win the Championship title and go promoted right away. Despite losing James Maddison and Harvey Barnes,
they managed to hang onto some of their squad’s most important players,
thus the heat was on. Leicester, though, has so far had a diamond season because to pressure.
They are allegedly now focusing on bringing in more reinforcements and maybe
undermining those close to them in their pursuit of advancement.
And one specific target might arrive during the January transfer window as a result.
Leicester City transfer news
When it comes to their finest players, Leicester did well in the summer to just
lose Barnes and Maddison, and they then managed to use the money
they made from those sales really well. The addition of players like Harry Winks,
Stephy Mavididi, and Issahaku Fatawu to the Foxes gave Maresca a team that could easily win a
promotion campaign. With eight points to spare in the automatic promotion spots,
Leicester will already be planning for the Premier League race of the following season.
But first, they could debilitate an opponent for a promotion.
Leicester is reportedly considering a bid to recruit Sunderland right-back Trai Hume,
according to TeamTalk. It is said that the Black Cats could ask
Timothee Pembele to fill the shoes of the 21-year-old after selling him for a profit.
Burnley and Leeds United are also rumored to be interested in the Sunderland player,
so Leicester isn’t the only team showing an interest.
Though it’s unclear if Leicester will make a move for Hume,
it’s easy to understand why the full-back has drawn so much attention considering
his young age and Championship experience. The Northern Irishman may be
someone to watch when the January transfer window opens.
“Fearless” Hume could replace injury-prone Pereira
As things stand, Leicester’s current right-back is Ricardo Pereira,
who has more than enough quality for not only the Championship but the Premier League.
The issue with Maresca’s current option is his ability to stay fit. Pereira’s injury history suggests
that the Foxes need an adequate back-up to step up in the key moments.
