Johnny McFarlane urges Rangers to sign ‘Terrific’ forward, multi-million fee mooted
Despite doubts about where the team would find the money,
Johnny McFarlane has pushed Rangers to sign Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima.
The Herland journalist stated that the Gers should “absolutely” look to retain
the Senegalese international even if a deal would cost them between £7 million and £8 million because
he might be worth “a lot more than that” in the future in an interview posted on
the Rangers Review YouTube channel on Thursday, January 11.
He continued by saying that the 22-year-old winger has been a
“terrific” addition while on a season-long loan from the Premier League team,
but he said he wasn’t sure where the Light Blues would get the funding to make the transfer possible.
“It seems like Rangers would want to sign him because he appears to be worth potentially much more
than that in the future if you were able to secure him on a five-year contract,
” McFarlane said. “You would imagine if Rangers could complete a deal to retain him,
you would absolutely do that,” McFarlane added.
“I don’t know where Rangers would get that kind of money, but that would be very expensive,
but that is the kind of impact that he has had to score 15 goals.
Rangers have been clamouring for a left winger to produce at least as much as Celtic’s wingers have for
the past five seasons, and he has delivered just that.
A fantastic addition that you should really have around.
Make it happen
Rangers will most likely be in secret negotiations to find a way to raise
the necessary money to sign Sima before his loan period expires.
After moving from Brighton, he has been in incredible form,
making 33 appearances this season with 15 goals and two assists.
However, the Premier League team won’t let him go for a low price,
so the Gers will need to demonstrate some grit if they hope to sign him.
The Light Blues’ hopes of signing him to a long-term contract,
however, may be dashed if Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi decides he wants to give him a look at next season.
Their chances of keeping the Senegalese after this year would significantly increase if they can convince him that his career would be better served at Ibrox.
