Rangers to announce big-money player exit by Thurs, option-to-buy update detailed – report
The Herald reports that Sam Lammers‘ loan transition from Rangers to FC Utrecht
will not come with a set cost to make the agreement permanent.
According to an online story from the news outlet on January 9,
Lammers is almost certain to sign a loan agreement with the Eredivisie team,
and an announcement about the deal should come in the next 48 hours.
The Dutch attacking midfielder, who has made 31 appearances for the Gers but
has only scored twice and assisted as many times,
will be returning to his own country.
The 26-year-old was traded from Serie A team Atalanta for £3.5 million by former manager Michale Beale
to arrive at Ibrox (Sky Sports News, June 16).
Since Philippe Clement joined the team in mid-October,
the player’s playing time has been reduced.
Reasonable
That Lammers would be let go by the team in January makes sense.
It would be an understatement to suggest that the attacking midfielder has found it difficult to contribute,
and it is obvious that Clement does not have him in mind for the near or distant future.
Moving out of Scotland therefore appears to be the best course of action for all parties.
Lammers is eager to resume his football career in the Netherlands,
where he first became interested in the game.
Rangers will get the most from this agreement as well.
The loan agreement’s lack of a fixed charge gives them
the upper hand in negotiations over Lammers’ future come summertime.
If he scores goals at a high rate while playing for Utrecht, Clement may be eager to give the guy another look.
Rangers will need to reevaluate the situation and his future in the summer if he performs poorly.
