Following a controversial penalty incident against Celtic,

Rangers chiefs John Bennett and James Bisgrove have come under fire from Gary Keown for their actions.

Anger erupted following the denial of a penalty by referee Nick Walsh and VAR official Willie Collum

for a handball on Alistair Johnston.

The dispute stemmed from an offside in the build-up that was used as justification for the denial of the penalty.

However, the offside was not noticed until the game was over.

A columnist for the Scottish Daily Mail has labelled Bisgrove and Bennett as

“the nutter on the bus that everyone avoids.”

Meanwhile, some Rangers supporters are still furious that Collum has taken personal jabs at

the official and his family after reports of leaking private information.

“Chairman John Bennett and CEO James Bisgrove used their argument over

the never-was-and-never-could-be penalty as an opportunity to show

they are serious individuals at a serious club and that they are acutely aware of the need to reposition

themselves politically to be at the centre of change,

” Keown wrote for Scottish Daily Mail on Sunday, January 7, on page 110.

How they blew it, gods. After selecting the incorrect path and attempting to push a massive vehicle up it backwards,

Rangers are still standing by themselves,

yelling at oncoming cars and receiving blank stares from onlookers seven days after

the chaos at Parkhead. once more!”

Time to move on

With eight points more than Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership,

Celtic has advanced while Rangers keep staring back at a decision that never would have been made.

The entire scenario has been bad for Scotland’s refereeing system,

with officials offering justifications for decisions that have been made.

Still, several Rangers supporters harass an official for making a mistake.

Football involves human error, which increases if VAR is not used—a position that many football fans support.

However, the most problematic aspect has been the way the aftermath was handled.

Nevertheless, there would only be one result from disclosing personal data to a

social media channel that is operated by fans.

Bennett and Bisgrove were undoubtedly aware of that.

There was calm and control when it was simply between the Scottish FA and the club’s hierarchy,

trying to find a middle ground.

Now, that has been completely disproved.

The sooner Rangers make the decision to put this behind them, the better.
