Warriors’ Draymond Green reinstated
from suspension by NBA after missing 12
games The NBA on Saturday lifted Draymond
Green’s ban, which he had served for 12
games after slapping Phoenix center
Jusuf Nurkić in the face on December 12.
During his suspension, which started on
December 14, Green “demonstrated his
commitment to conforming his conduct
to standards expected of NBA players,”
according to the league. In addition to
several collaborative sessions with
representatives of the league, the
Warriors, and the National Basketball
Players Association, he has also seen a counselor.
Those meetings, the league added, will
continue throughout the season.
The Warriors have gone 7-5 without
Green, who also was suspended for five
games in November for placing
Minnesota centre Rudy Gobert in a headlock.
Green’s “repeated history of
unsportsmanlike acts” was mentioned by
the league in imposing the most recent
penalty. In the playoffs of the previous
year, the four-time NBA champion was
also punished for standing on Domantas
Sabonis of Sacramento’s chest.
Green lost about $1.9 million in pay
while on suspension, having just signed a
new $100 million US contract with the
Warriors the previous summer.
The next game for Golden State is against
Toronto on Sunday at home.
The Warriors certainly need Green on
the floor more often. They are scuffling
along at 17-18 this season, 10th in the
Western Conference, just two years
removed from their most recent
championship. Green has played in just
15 games and the Warriors are 10-10 in
the games he has missed — including
two for an ankle sprain and another for personal reasons.
