Rangers accused of deflection tactics as SFA row masks failings against Celtic

Rangers’ performance in losing to Celtic has been blamed by Mark Wilson on the team’s exploitation of their dispute with the SFA as a cover story.

Due to what they saw to be a handball by Alistair Johnston during the derby,

the Ibrox club and the regulatory body have been at odds for the past few days.

The defender blocked the ball from harm’s way in the box,

but any handball that was awarded would have been nullified by an offside call by

Abdallah Sima during the build-up.

The Light Blues, however, disagree with the method used to arrive at

the ruling because it doesn’t appear that a VAR review was performed to determine whether there was an offside.

Following a meeting with Crawford Allan,

head of referee operations, club executives issued a statement.

They asserted that there was general agreement that a handball WOULD have been

the appropriate play and that there was no indication of any discussion on the offside in the audio.

The SFA, however, maintains that there was no consensus and has disputed several of their assertions.

The Gers chiefs were asked to demonstrate “greater responsibility” in their own statement,

highlighting the recent incident involving an attack on a referee in Turkey.

It also surfaced that Rangers requested that Willie Collum,

the VAR operator, not be allowed to work on any more of their games,

a request that the SFA promptly denied.

Rangers, according to former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson,

are attempting to hide their own shortcomings.

He said, “What the Rangers are doing is deflecting,” to Clyde One’s Superscoreboard.

I’ll also tell you what everyone is doing right now: they’re debating the choice.

“They’re not discussing Celtic perhaps faltering, Brendan Rodgers under duress,

or Rangers losing after leading the game. That is not being discussed.

“No one is discussing the manager’s choice of squad.

Not a single person is discussing Dessers or the manager’s substitutions.

It concerns the statement released regarding Willie Collum;

everything else has been overlooked.

“After the game at Ibrox, everything was the same.

Rather than talking about the actual defeat,

everyone spoke about that choice. It is a deflection.
