Rich Eisen, a broadcast journalist and ardent sports fan,

recently discussed Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson on Twitter on Christmas eve.

When multiple teams showed their lack of interest in the Ravens quarterback throughout the offseason,

it confused the NFL world.

Eisen’s remarks about this controversy raise a number of unresolved questions and provide fresh insight into Lamar Jackson’s peculiar summer.

This past spring, Lamar was “passed” by numerous teams, as evidenced by this.

1) He never had a free agency status. If the Ravens had declined the offer,

you would have needed to give them two No. 1 picks in order to sign him.

2) He would never be allowed to leave the Ravens.

And that’s it.

It is astounding to see organisations prepared to go with two firsts or more in

exchange for young quarterbacks like Bryce Young.

But reject out of hand the idea of signing Jackson. Raising eyebrows everywhere,

even teams in desperate need of a reliable quarterback choose not to pursue the position.

While some have attempted to use Jackson’s injury history and contract demands as

justifications for his circumstances.

In light of the Baltimore Ravens’ faith in him, it is difficult to accept these reasons.

In spite of all the odds, they contributed to his retention because they saw his potential.

It’s interesting to note that the Ravens’ choice has paid off because of Jackson’s distinctive playing style,

which has enabled the team to post the best record in the league (12-3).

Amidst allegations of sexual misbehaviour, Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons,

reportedly sought Deshaun Watson.

However, Blank disregarded Jackson, which doesn’t seem reasonable.

Journalist Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle is among

the few in the media to have brought attention to this perplexing circumstance.

He conveyed his confusion by presenting relevant queries about the teams’ dismissal of the MVP candidate.

His remarks stand in sharp contrast to other NFL insiders’ quiet.

Though there is still no clear reason for Jackson’s unusual offseason,

there are a few possibilities that raise the possibility of conspiracy.

There is a lot of conjecture that Jackson’s owner, Jimmy Haslam of the Cleveland Browns,

chose not to pursue him because Jackson won the Watson sweepstakes with an unprecedented five-year,

$230 million contract that was completely guaranteed.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio has also thought about possible collusion as a reason for Jackson’s circumstances,

speculating that the lack of interest may not be solely competitive.

More investigative reporting would be great if this notion is correct.
