Tony Snell, an NBA veteran, has a time limit on his employment. According to Jake Fischer at Yahoo Sports, Snell must sign for the

duration of the season and become a member of a team’s active roster by Friday in order to be qualified for the NBA’s premium

medical plan. To qualify for the Players Association’s retirement benefits scheme, which would cover him, his wife, and their two

children, he must play in the league for ten years. Autism spectrum disorder was identified in both of his boys.

There’s never been more urgency than Snell’s. At the moment, he plays for the Boston Celtics’ G-League club, the Maine Celtics. The

Celtics have younger players on the bench and aren’t planning to make any adjustments, so he hasn’t made it onto the active roster yet.

With a 37-11 split for the season, the Celtics are the top NBA club in terms of record.

Even though Snell talks about how much he enjoys mentoring younger players at his G-League team, his goal is to return to the NBA

court and obtain the medical plan. Snell has an autistic diagnosis as well, so he needs to figure out how to apply for the NBA’s retiree

benefits program.

February 8th is the NBA trade deadline, while February 24th is the G-League trade deadline. Snell needs to find a path back onto the

professional basketball court, and if a trade to a different team fits his demands, that may be it.
