Philippe Clement decries Rangers ‘wrong transfer rumours’ as boss rejects speculation
As he looks to bring in new players, Philippe Clement has stated that the Rangers’ transfer rumors this window have been “more
wrong than right”.
A number of names, including Gijs Smal, Million Manhoef, and Luca Langoni of Boca Juniors, were connected to the Ibrox club in
January. One player who will arrive this month in a £4.5 million move is Mohamed Diomande, while Fabio Silva
is already in the door after joining on loan from Wolves.
The Belgian has a reputation for brushing off inquiries about rumors and conjecture regarding transfer plans, but he did offer some
context when questioned about Ridvan Yilmaz’s possible departure this month. The player gave his best amid recommendations that
he should leave after the Turk scored yesterday night in a 3-0 victory over Hibs,
and Clement was questioned about it.
At that point, the manager clarified that false rumors regarding Gers’ inflows and outflows during this window had been spreading.
“Of course, otherwise he’d never be on the pitch if I see something else,” he replied. “He would never enter the game or be included in
the lineup. That is evident. Only with players that are committed to the team and give their all can we work hard and win games. Does
that mean a player will be present the following week? that you can never be sure.
And every position on the field is the same as that. However, they must give it their all while playing for the Rangers, and I will offer
them opportunities.” However, there are a lot of rumors around the transfer market. I have to admit that there are a lot of false rumors
—far more false than true—but I can’t get into specifics because then I’d have to discuss rumors all the time,
and I’d much rather speak about football and how to help players improve.”
