A five-goal demolition of Tianjin Tigers on the final day of the season saw Shanghai Port crowned Chinese Super League champions once again, finishing one point clear of rivals Shanghai Shenhua.
Needing to match Shanghai Shenhua’s result to secure the title, Shanghai Port made a fast start at the Pudong Arena. Leo Cittadini gave them the perfect start, scoring from close range in the fourth minute to settle any early nerves.
Port’s dominance continued in the second half. Vargas’s volley, eventually awarded after a VAR review, made it 2-0 before Oscar’s penalty further cemented their control. The Brazilian then set up Wu Lei for a well-taken goal, putting the result beyond doubt.
With nine minutes left on the clock, Wu Lei sparked jubilant celebrations at the Pudong Arena. His perfectly placed header found the back of the net, confirming Shanghai Port as champions for a second consecutive season.
Shanghai Shenhua did their part in the title race, overcoming a halftime deficit to defeat Chengdu Rongcheng 2-1. Wu Xi and Yu Hanchao scored the crucial goals, but ultimately, their victory wasn’t enough to snatch the title from Shanghai Port.
