Rangers want to sign winger Oscar Cortes permanently this summer, and Lens is demanding £4 million, according to Chris Jack.

The journalist writes on the Rangers Review website (1 June) that Philippe Clement wants to bring

the Colombian winger to the club on a permanent basis after his loan stay was cut short due to

injury in 2023/24.Lens are open to a deal, but would seek the £4 million they spent on signing the

20-year-old from Millonarios a year ago.Much of the speculation concerning Cortes’ future at Ibrox

next season was around renewing the loan contract that brought him to the club in the first place.

However, it appears that a permanent deal is more likely, as Rangers seek to bolster their squad in

order to close the gap with Celtic.A loan arrangement would allow this, but it would only be

temporary, leaving the player’s future out of their hands if he shined, whereas a permanent deal

seemed to make more sense. However, a £4 million sum is not small coin by any stretch of the

imagination, and if the club is going to spend that much money on one player, they must be

satisfied that he will improve the squad.

Cortes possesses all of the qualities that Clement looks for in a winger, and with little negotiating,

this is a deal that might definitely happen, given the player’s recent comments [Pipe Sierra, 22
