Following revelations that Celtic directors have been left irritated by the “stalemate” in negotiations about

who should be in charge of organizing future organized title parties, an MSP has urged Glasgow City Council

executives to take the lead in these matters.

MSP for Scottish Labour Paul Sweeney is the representative for the Glasgow region,

which includes the area where the Hoops legions now congregate to celebrate their victories but has also been the

target of criticism for their recent actions, particularly following their victory in the Scottish Premiership this season,

which brought tens of thousands of people to the Merchant City.

According to Sweeney, who spoke with directors of Celtic and other board members, the organization is amenable to

holding an organized fan zone event; however, the obstacle is who should take the lead,

as Parkhead presents a logistical challenge in addition to the fact that they are not allowed to sell alcohol.

Sweeney also expressed frustration to Michael Nicholson, the chief executive of Hoops, and other board members,

saying, “It is quite frustrating when you hear from the major players on this. It seems to me that there isn’t any leadership

being displayed from the city about trying to facilitate this.”

“I spoke with some of their directors while I was at Celtic Park for the women’s team match when they won the

Scottish championship. I brought up this matter with them and inquired about the status of more planned events and the

club’s interest in them. They claimed to have had lengthy discussions about it with Glasgow City Council,

during which they essentially came to an impasse over who would take the initiative to organize it.

“I had a conversation with the CEO and a few other directors. They couldn’t wait for it. They were all eager to

participate and really open-minded. However, they stated that the city must take the initiative to arrange the

planning and logistics. The points that have returned have frustrated them. Phrases such as “Why don’t you do it at the stadium?

” That is just impractical because you can’t truly ticket it that way and you can’t authorize alcohol to be consumed at the stadium.
