Werner’s loan period has been extended by one more season, according to news earlier this week (BBC Sport). Tottenham will pay Werner’s salary for the 2024–25 campaign and will have the option to sign him permanently for £8.5 million the following summer.

Alasdair Gold of Football.London has revealed that Spurs consider the deal to be a wise internal move because it allows the team to bolster their forward line without using up any of their summer transfer funds.

The reporter also disclosed that Ange Postecoglou had loved working with the 28-year-old over the past few months and that he was eager to get back to Hotspur Way.

Some Tottenham supporters, however, are not happy about the decision and feel that the team should have pushed the envelope and signed a top-tier attacker instead of going with a less expensive choice.

Tottenham Hotspur re-sign Timo Werner on loan

Murphy isn’t too thrilled with the addition either, claiming that the former Chelsea player didn’t contribute enough in the second part of the previous campaign to be eligible for a loan extension.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Tottenham midfielder said, “Well, Simon and I were actually a little bit perplexed and shocked by this one.” Far from lighting up the world, he hasn’t done so.

All I can think of is that they might be considering adding a big man up top and using him more as a backup because Brennan Johnson is on the right and has to grow and produce a little bit more.

“Kulusevski has been mixing him up on the right, but he has talent and potential.”

“But I don’t think Tottenham fans will be too excited by that if he’s thinking of keeping the same frontline with Werner on the left and Son and Richarlison as your strikers.”

I believe that a large portion of the unhappiness around this acquisition stems from the misconception—which seems blatantly incorrect—that this would be the final attacking addition made by Spurs this window. Tottenham should be looking to add two more elite forwards this summer, in my opinion.
