Leicester already targeting Enzo Maresca replacement – Chairman and sporting director make

scouting mission

Manager of OH Leuven Óscar García Junyent has been considered by Leicester City as a potential

replacement for Enzo Maresca, who is leaving to join Chelsea.

That’s according to the Spanish version of Be Soccer, which claims that Leicester is considering the

manager of OH Leuven as a potential replacement for their current coach.

Maresca appears to be Chelsea’s top choice to succeed Mauricio Pochettino this summer,

according to a series of sources that put him in the running for the position.

It looks like a deal is almost done for him, and if all goes according to plan, Leicester will start looking

for a successor soon.

Many candidates have already been mentioned in relation to the role, but according to

BeSoccer, Oscar García Junyent is well qualified.

They claim that Leicester has even “spied” on the OH Leuven coach in recent weeks, as its

sporting director Jon Rudkin and chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha recently

traveled to witness the Belgian team play KVC Westerlo.

He is now just one of the contenders on the list; there isn’t a ranking assigned just yet.

But it’s also important to remember that King Power, who also owns Leicester, owns Leuven,

and that brief reconnaissance mission was conducted. That might make a move easier,

and the report also points out that Oscar’s prior English experience with Brighton and

Watford shouldn’t be disregarded.

For the moment, we would proceed with caution, considering the source and the connections between

Leuven and Leicester. Oscar isn’t a total unknown being associated with the position,

since he is already listed at 9/1 on the bookies’ lists.

However, BeSoccer appear assured, and considering how abrupt and unexpected Maresca’s

departure was, maybe Leicester would consider a simple solution like this to take his position right now.
