Five-time Premier League winning striker admits he wishes he’d played for Celtic

From his playing days, Wayne Rooney doesn’t have many regrets.

He achieved nearly every feat possible at the club level,

and although his performance in important international tournaments may not have been as significant as he would have liked,

he still had a tremendous career.

Rooney did, however, mention one thing he wishes he had done during his career in an interview with The Overlap.

When asked which team he would have preferred to play for in his prime,

Rooney replied that he would have preferred to play for Celtic.

Wayne Rooney wishes he could’ve played for Celtic

The five-time Premier League champion expressed his wish to represent the powerful Scottish team.

“The team you wish you could have played for in your playing career?” Someone asked Rooney.

Celtic, I would say, Rooney remarked.

Wayne Rooney would’ve been perfect for Celtic

Celtic and Rooney might have been a match made in heaven.

Even before we talk about his skill as a player,

Rooney is a total firebrand on the field,

and his mentality fits Celtic so perfectly.

Unquestionably one of the greatest players of his generation,

the former all-time record goalscorer for England

would have been among the best in Scotland even in his latter playing career.
Jermain Defoe scored goals during his first loan spell with Rangers back in 2019–20,

and if Rooney had chosen to join Celtic rather than DC United after leaving Everton,

he might have become something of a modern-day legend at Celtic Park.

Veteran English strikers have made a significant impact in Scotland before.

Though it’s unfortunate that we were never able to witness Rooney play in a green and white hooped shirt,

it would have been an exhilarating thought to see the Manchester United legend play for Celtic.

Rooney undoubtedly would have suited very well at Celtic.
