Chris Rigg, a young player for Sunderland, called scoring goals “the best feeling ever” and said he wants to be “a regular starter” the next season.

The youthful player, who turns 17 on the 18th of the next month, made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in January 2023 and shocked many with his mature midfield displays for someone so young.

Rigg continued to play for the team in the league campaign of the previous season, although his future at the Stadium of Light remains uncertain due to the lack of a head coach.

Reassuringly for Sunderland supporters, though, Rigg is obviously passionate about the team and is exclusively focused on the upcoming season in familiar surroundings.

During an interview on the Sunderland YouTube site, he stated: “It was a good season for me personally.” I’m playing in my first championship and scoring goals. Mostly just taking advantage of the possibilities and being present.

In a 5-0 victory over Southampton in September of last year, he scored his first league goal for Sunderland. It was five minutes past the start of stoppage.
