Loanee After fracturing his shoulder during Southampton’s Championship playoff final victory over Leeds United on Sunday, David Brooks said he had to be “dragged off”.

After being knocked down by a Leeds player in the first half, the Cherries player attempted to continue after getting medical attention.

After a brief stretch of play with his arm tucked tight to his body, Brooks was unable to continue and was replaced on the 35-minute mark by winger Sam Edozie.

The Saints team celebrated their promotion at St Mary’s on Monday, with the Welsh international still sporting a sling to support his arm.

When questioned by the Daily Echo about the injuries that kept him out of commission, Brooks said, “It’s okay.” The agony has already subsided.

“I made an effort to try it. The fact that I had to exit the pitch devastated me. That’s just the way things are. Sam Edozie had the day off because I came in for Che Adams last week.

It wasn’t too unpleasant as long as we finished the task.

I’ve been away for around two years; you need to pull me away. I would have done everything in my power to stay, but that was not the case.

Russell Martin, the manager of Saints, expressed his disappointment that the 26-year-old’s loan from AFC Bournemouth ended in injury.

“I’m really gutted for him,” he remarked. He wasn’t supposed to play, but I felt he was amazing against West Brom.

“He would join the squad after we had an injury the day before, and I would tell him that sometimes I thought things happened for a purpose. When he entered, it was genuinely his finest performance for us.

“He had a great start to the playoff final.” It is terrible for him that he did that because (he) was extremely menacing.

“He is having a great time in there. Hopefully, a couple beers and some champagne will also help him feel a little less pain.”

This season, Brooks has made 20 Championship appearances for Southampton, tallying two goals and dishing out six assists.
