Medical done & four-year deal agreed as Newcastle United consider £35m swoop
Giorgi Mamardashvili is being pursued by Newcastle United, as Valencia is prepared to lose the goalie this summer.
The 6′ 6″ Georgian has played in 37 La Liga games this season and has maintained 13
clean sheets. The Magpies have
apparently researched the player closely and are planning a deal.
In fact, changes are anticipated in United’s goalkeeping staff in the upcoming months. When Loris Karius’s contract
ends at the end of the following month, he will depart, and as Martin Dubravka approaches the last year of his
contract, his future is unclear.
In 2023–2024, the Slovakian played in thirty games while Nick Pope missed five months due to a dislocated
shoulder. Dubravka was benched for Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Brentford after Pope returned to full fitness, and he
was then left off of the roster for the postseason trip to Australia.
According to The Times, Mamardashvili is probably going to fetch a price tag of about £35 million. He would
reportedly compete directly with Pope and, at 23, be considered a long-term replacement, as the England shot
stopper turns 33 the following year.
But Atletico Madrid is also interested in Mamardashvili, so Newcastle isn’t the only team connected to him.
