Sunderland have published their retained list after the 2023/24 season. Club captain Corry Evans
will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
Evans made 67 appearances for the club over three seasons after joining from Blackburn Rovers,
and was a key member of the team that earned promotion from League One and then stabilized in
the Championship. He leaves after recently recuperating from a serious ACL injury.
Evans is one of four senior squad members whose contracts will expire this summer, with Bradley
Dack leaving after an injury-plagued debut season with the club. Jack Diamond will leave after
Sunderland decided not to renew his current contract after a year on loan at Carlisle United, while
another academy graduate Ellis Taylor will also go. Taylor has been an important part of the U21
team that has advanced to the Premier League 2 play-off semi-finals, which will be contested on Monday.
While Mason Burstow will return to Chelsea at the end of his loan, Sunderland are still to decide
whether to activate the option that will make Callum Styles‘ transfer from Barnsley permanent.
Sunderland have also announced that twelve academy players will leave this summer. Ben
Creamer, Callum Wilson, Connor Pye, Daniel Obolo, Harry Gardiner, Jayden Sekete, Joe Ryder,
Kailem Beattie, Michael Spellman, and Thomas Chiabi are all scheduled to go. Harrison Jones and
Caden Kelly have been retained.
Sunderland has also stated that they have extended new deals to a number of young players, who
will now consider their futures at the club, with several receiving their first professional contract.
Cuba Mitchell, Daniel Cameron, Henry Fieldson, Jenson Jones, Luke Bell, and Tom Lavery have all
been granted new contracts. A club statement read: “All at Sunderland AFC would like to thank our
departing players for their professionalism and commitment and we wish them well for the future.”
