Richard Stearman, a 36-year-old defender for Sheffield United, Leicester City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, is now without a club.
Days after Solihull Moors‘ second consecutive loss at Wembley Stadium in a week, the seasoned defender was let go.

On May 5, Bromley defeated Solihull on penalties in the National League play-off final,

while Gateshead broke Solihull’s hearts by winning the FA Trophy through a shootout as well.

Although Stearman was not on the field for either game, he was included in the team for the FA Trophy final.

As the Moors had verified their retained list and Stearman was one of those being allowed to explore new pastures,

that turned out to be his final matchday experience with Solihull.

Stephen Ward, the director of football at Solihull, gave an explanation for the choice.

The players who are still under contract and those who have been offered new deals

represent a great starting point for the 2024/25 season.

I would like to personally thank each and every player for their efforts during the past season

and wish those who will not be continuing with us all the best for their future.”

In keeping with the football culture and plan we have established,

we will be developing around them as we strive to get better every year,” Ward stated.
It remains to be known if Stearman will pursue retirement or another career path.

Nevertheless, with almost 500 career appearances—229 of which were for Wolves—he can be regarded as one of the greats of the EFL.

Stearman was voted the Old Gold’s Player of the Year for the 2014–15 campaign.

He was instrumental in the Wanderers’ victories in both the 2013–14 League One and the 2008–09 Championship.
The season prior to his first transfer to Molineux, the now 36-year-old won Player of the Year at Leicester.

Being reared in Leicester and born in Wolverhampton fulfilled Stearman’s childhood fantasy.
