Arsenal begin talks over £80m Bruno Guimaraes transfer: report

This summer, Arsenal is reportedly looking to add a new midfield player, and Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United is at the top of the list.
The transfer of Bruno Guimaraes, a star player for Newcastle United, is being discussed by Arsenal.
As per a source, the Gunners are eager to add another midfield player to their roster for the upcoming summer.

Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard have been a part of Mikel Arteta’s midfield for a large portion of the season,

but this is still a position in flux with players like Kai Havertz, Jorginho, and Thomas Partey.
A new player is required because Jorginho recently signed a new deal,

while Havertz has performed better as a No. 9 and Partey has shown inconsistent health.

Ben Jacobs, a transfer journalist, reported via CaughtOffside

that Arsenal had “made contact with [Guimaraes’] camp” over a summer transfer.

However, he emphasized that the north Londoners will not be activating Newcastle’s £100 million release clause.
The Athletic reports that the Brazilian’s provision is only in effect until June 30.

This means that any negotiations won’t take place until then.

The cost of the deal will also be a factor;

Arsenal will only want to join the competition if the 26-year-old’s transfer fee drops considerably.

“Arsenal values Guimaraes, but they do not intend to activate his clause,

which states that they will only compete if the cost decreases,” according to Jacobs. ”

Gunther will just highlight the clause’s worth as long as it remains in effect,

but it’s understood that offers over £80 million

may be considered should Guimaraes decide to join a Champions League team.”
FourFourTwo believes that although Bruno’s interest in a move has probably been expressed to Arsenal,

a transfer is not guaranteed to happen as a result of such communication.

According to Jacobs, Manchester City is still in the lead for the midfield player.

Given the Gunners’ interest in both Bruno and Toon teammate Alexander Isak,

Mikel Arteta might decide to sign Isak alone rather than the two.
