Premier League David Moyes West Ham

Following the news that David Moyes will be leaving West Ham at the conclusion of the season,

a number of players could depart the team this summer.

The worst kept secret in football was confirmed when it was revealed last week that

Moyes will be departing the London Stadium following a subpar finish to the Premier League season.

This marked the end of his four and a half-year tenure at the club.

He won’t likely be the only player leaving the Hammers this summer, as they are eager to make changes.

After turning down a second contract offer to stay, Ben Johnson is poised to go as a free agent,

while senior players Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio are also anticipated to depart the

London Stadium when their contracts expire.

The contracts of 35-year-old defender Angelo Ogbonna and Vladimir Coufal are up.

It is not yet known if the Hammers will choose to activate Coufal’s one-year option.

There will also be a line forming for some of West Ham’s best players.

Mohammed Kudus has drawn interest from elite clubs with his performances this season,

and Lucas Paqueta has been heavily linked to a move to Manchester City (a deal that only fell through due to a betting scandal last summer).

The London team might have to cash in and reinvest that money because there isn’t any

European football to tempt them to stay. Additionally, manager Julen Lopetegui, who will soon arrive,

probably has a long list of players he wants to add to his own roster this summer.

Nayef Aguerd, a defender from Morocco, is the second Hammer who is reportedly leaving.

After making just five Premier League games in 2024, the defender has fallen down Moyes’s priority list,

despite once seeming like a solid first choice.

He has failed to live up to Moyes’s prediction from a year ago that, after one special Everton match,

he would become “a really good player for us.”

“His passing, his diagonal passes which he hit out from left to right to Vladi [Coufal] were excellent” ,

Moyes stated. “He’s probably started three or four games for us now and that’s good because

I think he’s going to be a really good player for us.”

According to a French source [via Sport Witness], the 28-year-old’s departure is now expected,

with Marseille particularly keen to welcome him home this summer.

Despite having paid £30 million to bring him over the English channel less than two years ago,

Aguerd says he is “not against the idea of leaving since he has lost his ‘indisputable’ starting status”

and the club is “not closed to the idea of letting him leave.”

Marseille is unlikely to be able to pay anywhere near the amount West Ham spent for Aguerd,

and the defender is under contract in east London until 2027, earning almost £50,000 a week,

so his prospective price could be a roadblock.

It is also said that a contract can be in the form of a loan with a buyout or obligation to acquire the defender,

however it is difficult to understand how such a deal would suit the club
