Don Goodman, a pundit, feels that Ipswich Town should concentrate first on fortifying their

defense before pursuing more ambitious goals.

During the next summer transfer window, the Tractor Boys will have a lot of work to do in a number of areas.

They need to add quality and depth to their goalkeeping, defense, midfield, and attack.

Christian Walton may now face competition from Vaclav Hladky for a starting position at

Portman Road as a result of their allegedly activating an extension clause in his contract.

Axel Tuanzebe has a further 12-month contract option with Ipswich, and it would be tough to

imagine the Tractor Boys passing that up given that he’s a top-tier player when healthy.

They will need to find a replacement for Brandon Williams, who was just on loan; however,

all of their other former loanees are attackers or midfielders.

It is likely that Kieffer Moore, Jeremy Sarmiento, Omari Hutchinson,

and Lewis Travis have now returned to their parent clubs, and their individual loan clubs

will need to make decisions regarding their futures.

There is much work to be done and Ipswich cannot afford to have a slow start to the

summer with former loanees leaving and players perhaps leaving on contract expiration,

including Sone Aluko who is certain to quit his playing role.

Goodman, who has watched Ipswich play frequently recently, has noted that the

Tractor Boys gave up more goals in the 2023–24 season than they did in the previous one,

in which they were promoted from League One.

Given their rise from the third division, conceding 22 more league goals in 2023–2024

was to be expected, but Goodman has highlighted this as one of the reasons

Kieran McKenna’s team has to strengthen defensively this summer.

But sentimentality is out of the question at this moment, since Ipswich must significantly

improve in order to compete in the 2024–2025 campaign.

It would be foolish to allocate the large majority of their budget to the front position when they should be concentrating on the defense.

They cannot, however, afford to adhere to a strict schedule and take care of some departments

before others because there are numerous departments that require attention.

Different targets could become available at different times – and they will need to pounce for certain signings when they have a good chance of getting a deal over the line.
