Everton’s 777 takeover is ‘dead in the water’ – what next for Farhad Moshiri?

Farhad Moshiri, the owner of Everton, is reportedly considering terminating the contract and looking into other options.

Not formally, or at least not quite yet. However, Wednesday presented the first evidence that Moshiri,

who has publicly praised the Miami-based investment business since September,

Red flags over the agreement have been present for some time, despite 777 insiders’

public declarations of confidence. As recently as last week, a source close to the group

stated they were “on track” to complete the buyout by the end of May.

The company is defending several civil actions, and this week Standard Liege,

one of the clubs in their multi-club ownership group, was subject to a transfer ban due to late wage payments.

These problems seem to have finally forced Moshiri to take action.

Whatever was discussed in those closed-door negotiations with 777 representatives in

London at the beginning of this week was not enough to convince Moshiri that the deal was moving

closer to conclusion. I’ve been informed that he is looking at other options and may terminate the 777 deal.

An declaration that the transaction is off is almost certainly imminent,

even with Moshiri’s history of being an unpredictable owner. In fact, football finance expert

Kieran Maguire stated to me on Thursday morning that he thinks the 777 deal is now “dead in the water.”

As a result, we are currently awaiting formal word from Everton,

however insider information is still lacking. Because of Moshiri’s unconventional strategy,

nobody is really sure when or how the following stages will be announced,

but a speedy resolution is advantageous to all parties.
