Confirmed: Tottenham to sign Dani Olmo this summer as per the German outlet Sport Bild.
James Maddison had a great start at the recently refurbished
White Hart Lane after joining the Lilywhites from Leicester City last summer.
But since recovering from an injury, he has struggled to repeat that
kind of play in the second part of the season.
As a result, it appears like Spurs intend to buy a new number ten in order to provide
Maddison some competition and to bolster their attacking midfield depth
as they look to qualify for Europe the next season.
Sport Witness has stated that Tottenham is interested in Olmo and that they
have already started talks to sign him this summer, quoting and translating the
print version of Sport Bild.
The article also states that the Spaniard’s current deal contains a £56 million release clause,
which is set to activate in July of this year. Tottenham will therefore need to
pay a hefty sum to entice him to North London.
Sport Bild claims that Barcelona has already discussed this agreement with
Leipzig and the player’s representation and that they are also interested in bringing their
academy graduate back to the team.
Spurs appear to be ahead of the Blaugrana in this race, but the report says
they can’t afford to sign the player since Leipzig won’t cut their asking price.
Though Spurs have already taken the initial step to recruit Olmo,
according to the German newspaper, nothing about this agreement has “become really concrete yet.”
Olmo is a versatile player who can play in any attacking midfield position.
In the recent German Bundesliga, he has already shown signs of improvement.
Having shown encouraging results for Leipzig, he has already guaranteed a spot in the
Spanish national squad.
So, if Tottenham decides to buy Olmo, it could be a wise move.
It would be intriguing to watch, though, if the North London team decides to sign the 26-year-old in
the forthcoming transfer window in order to bolster their midfield.
