In the Scottish Premiership table, Celtic leads Rangers by three points and has a better goal differential when they play them on Saturday lunchtime.

When asked if a win for Philippe Clement’s team would come as a shock, Lambert responded, “Yes, because on current form and with Rangers’ record there not being the best it would be an upset for everybody.” Rangers have not triumphed at Celtic Park since 2020.

Celtic seems to be hitting their stride once more, and they’re playing at a pivotal moment in the season.

The league leaders’ consistent recent form has helped them overtake their rivals, who have only taken one point from the three derbies this season.

The former Scotland captain, who won the title four times in seven seasons at Celtic, feels Brendan Rodgers is due significant credit for guiding the side through a season of ups and downs.

“He’s been brilliant. He’s kept a totally calm head with everything that was going on earlier in the season,” added the former Livingston and Aston Villa manager.

Brendan has done a fantastic job there, in my opinion. Rangers had a tiny bite at it before blowing it and giving it to Celtic again.

“He’s entered at a very challenging moment after Ange [Postecoglou]’s success, and I genuinely believe he’s performed brilliantly.”

Borussia Dortmund’s Lambert, a Champions League winner, thinks a coach’s ability to have his team peaking at the perfect time shouldn’t be undervalued.

He declared, “I watched the Celtics vs. Hearts game, and they played really, really well and deserved to win.”

“Right now, they are in a pretty fantastic place. Rangers need to win there in order to have a genuine shot at winning the championship.

Even though Lambert hasn’t played in almost 20 years, he still has fond recollections of participating in the chaos of the Old Firm derbies under Martin O’Neill and Wim Jansen.

“These games are very, really fantastic. Fantastic times and intense pressure – it’s unfortunate that away fans won’t be able to attend the match. That detracts from the show.”

Kevin Thomson, a former Rangers player, is forecasting a “intriguing” and thrilling match this weekend at Celtic Park.

“It was different a few weeks ago, but now the trophy is Celtic’s to lose,” he said on the BBC Scotland’s Scottish Football Podcast.

“I’m not sure if there will be another twist, but Celtic is undoubtedly playing at their best right now. To put it another way, I would wager on both teams to score. The backs of both teams are extremely flimsy.

This game right now is the one that could potentially have the highest score in the future. There will be mistakes and anxiety because the stakes are so high, and there are a lot of goals.

“I would have said three weeks ago that Rangers might go there and win, but they had that stuttering week. The complexity of the alterations is astounding. It will be fascinating.
