Falcons Trade for Caleb Williams Must Be For No. 1 Pick with Bears
The anticipated number one overall pick, Caleb Williams, is available to the Atlanta Falcons if they decide to move up.
For the next two months, the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons will be associated as trade partners,
but perhaps not in the manner that most people anticipate.
This summer, the Falcons are undoubtedly in the quarterback market, with a number of players worth drafting and some worth acquiring through trade;
nevertheless, none may have a better ceiling than Caleb Williams, the team’s predicted first overall pick.
Williams is regarded as the best quarterback available in the 2024 NFL year, and because
the Bears have the first pick again, they might try to manoeuvre, much like they did
in the previous year.
The Carolina Panthers didn’t get the outcome they were hoping for when they traded up to the top pick last year to choose Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.
The Bears are ranked first once more in the draft this year because Carolina had to give up their first-round selection.
But the Washington Commanders, who will choose at No. 2, are the main reason the Falcons must trade all the way up to No. 1 in order to get Williams.
Similar to the Falcons, the Commanders have a fresh coaching staff.
Dan Quinn, a former Falcons coach, is in charge and he brought Kliff Kingsbury on board as the offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury was an offensive analyst
Williams played for the USC Trojans last season, and Kingsbury was an offensive analyst for
them during his time as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 22.
Williams being on the board at No. 2 does not guarantee that the Commanders will select him,
but the Kingsbury hire suggests that it is a possibility.
For this reason, the Falcons must throw in the towel and target No. 1 if they are serious about landing Williams.
