Andre Johnson Hall of Fame nod gives Texans their first major piece of NFL history

Thanks to wide receiver Andre Johnson’s admission into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the 2024 class,

the Houston Texans are now formally members of the hall.

He provides the Texans their first significant piece of NFL history and is the first player to achieve that distinction.

The Texans have mostly been an afterthought in the NFL for the first 22 years of their existence.

Along with Cleveland, Detroit, and Jacksonville, they are one of only four teams that have never participated in a Super Bowl.

They have also only won five games in the postseason total, and they have never advanced to the AFC Championship game.

They were among the few clubs in the league without a Hall of Fame selection until this past Thursday.

Johnson’s appointment will ultimately cause the latter note to shift.

Johnson was the franchise’s first real superstar, thus it makes sense that he is the first Texan to receive that distinction.

With the third overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Houston chose Johnson,

and even though they never actually had a particularly good quarterback tossing him the ball, Johnson shot to stardom in their offence right away.

In addition to becoming a two-time first-team All-Pro, he twice led the league in receptions and receiving yardage. Johnson will go down in history as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time,

in addition to being among the greatest of his generation.

It completed a historic evening for the Texans, as they also won the offensive and defensive rookie of the year titles, respectively, and nearly lost out on the coach of the year award to head coach Demeco Ryans.

The winners were quarterback C.J. Stroud and edge rusher Will Anderson Jr.

The arrival of Stroud, Anderson Jr., and Ryans must instill some optimism in Texans supporters that their long wait for a Super Bowl berth may soon come to an end.

Meanwhile, their club finally experiences a first-ever milestone moment with Johnson’s induction into the Hall of Fame.
