Celtics trade for talented bench big man-sources
This season, the Boston Celtics are fully committed to winning the title.
Big man Xavier Tillman was acquired by the Celtics in a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies,
according to a report published on Wednesday by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. In exchange,
Memphis will receive two second-round selections (2027 via Atlanta and 2030 via Dallas).
Tillman is a muscular presence in the frontcourt who is very active in the paint,
despite being a little undersized at 6 feet 8 inches. Over the past two Memphis seasons,
Tillman has averaged 6.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in fewer than 20 minutes per game.
The NBA’s top-ranked Celtics were looking to add a front-court player to support
Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. As the reserve bigs, Luke Kornet and Neemias
Queta were performing OK till now.
However, Tillman’s signing offers Boston a better playoff-proven alternative.
