In a compelling NFL.com 2024 mock draft, the Green Bay Packers choose an impressive defensive missile from the Big Ten.
Generally speaking, the Green Bay Packers performed better than predicted during the 2023 NFL season.
It’s now up to them to maintain their form and build on the
success they had in their first season without future Hall of Fame
quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Although the defense deserves credit as well, Eric Edholm of NFL.com predicts that Green Bay will select a defensive player in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Jordan Love has always been cited as one of the main factors behind the Packers’ unexpected 2023 campaign.
“The Packers need help at safety and cornerback, and I think DeJean could play either position in the NFL. A player like the rangy DeJean would fit the position of single-high looks that new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has been using a lot. For what it’s worth, Green Bay has also had a lengthy history of selecting successful Hawkeye draft picks.”
The Green Bay Packers Should Consider Cooper DeJean as a Prospect in the NFL Draft
With the No. 25 pick in the first round, the Green Bay Packers can use that pick in a variety of ways. They will be receiving an intriguing possibility who was a key member of one of the most efficient stop units in the 2023 college football season if they decide to spend that on DeJean.
After that season, the Iowa Hawkeyes were fifth in the country with 170.7 passing yards given up per game and fourth in the country with just 14.8 points allowed per game.
DeJean has a solid 77.4 overall rating from Pro Football Focus. In three years with the Hawkeyes, DeJean had seven interceptions and 13 passes defended plus 120 total tackles.
The Packers may need to shore up the depth of their secondary, and getting a cornerback like DeJean seems like a good idea for Green Bay.
