Following a crushing blow, Adam Montgomery is “increasingly likely” to depart Celtic.
According to sources that spoke with Football Insider, Adam Montgomery has probably played
his final game for Celtic before departing at the end of the current campaign.
The 21-year-old is in contract talks with the Glasgow giants, but as of yet, he has not agreed
to an extension. His term is scheduled to expire in June.
After suffering a severe injury setback, Football Insider has been informed by reliable sources
that it is “increasingly likely” that the Hoops will allow him to depart the team for free.
After suffering a long-term injury during practice last month, Montgomery was moved
on loan to Motherwell for the balance of the year. However, the club has now confirmed
that he has returned to Glasgow.
In his lone Steelmen game, on January 20, they defeated Alloa Athletic 3-1 in the Scottish Cup,
and he recorded an assist.
The Scotsman made just six appearances across all competitions during his first half of the season
with Fleetwood Town of English League One.
The left-back appears to be out of time with Brendan Rodgers at this point.
He enrolled in Celtic’s academy in 2009, and in his 20 senior games, he has contributed one assist.
Throughout his tenure at Parkhead, Montgomery has been sent out on multiple loan stints,
most notably a 2022–2023 season-long stint with St Johnstone.
After their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen on Saturday, Celtic are only three points ahead of Rangers,
who still have a game to play (3 February).
Their next game is on Wednesday night, February 7, at Easter Road against Hibernian.
