‘Always asking’ – Shankland breaks silence on transfer talk amid Rangers links
Amid Rangers connections, Lawrence Shankland speaks out about the Hearts transfer rumors. During the January transfer window, Lawrence Shankland acknowledged he was “sick of hearing my own name” despite strong rumors of a transfer to Rangers.
The 28-year-old claims he was content at Hearts before the New Year and is still content now that no official word of interest in signing him has reached him. According to reports, he was in favor of an Ibrox switch if it was possible [4th Official, 4 January].
Although the Scottish Sun, a supporter of the Gers, was receiving questions about his future from his own family on a regular basis, it
is evident that he has not allowed the rumors to impact his play. Since his goal at Ibrox on October 29, he has scored 13 goals in the
SPFL. Prior to the winter window, the Tynecastle captain was thought to be the perfect solution to Ibrox’s dearth of striking options,
but nothing came of it.
Shankland stated, “Obviously it brings a pressure,” to BBC Sport, as reported by the Scottish Sun on February 4. There’s a lot of
chatter and noise in the area. To be honest, I was probably tired of hearing my own name by then. My relatives were the same way—
they never stopped inquiring. However, my entire attention was on my football. There was a lot of talk even in December before it
happened, but I kept my attention on my football.
“I was still playing well, contributing goals and carrying out my duties for Hearts.” That was the most crucial thing I could concentrate on and complete. I gave that my whole attention, and it helped me get through it. I simply allowed the background noise to continue.
“I had no idea what the cost was. That’s the part that most people probably don’t consider and that is beyond my control. It won’t
reach me until someone approaches Hearts and asks, “This is what we’re giving you. Are you accepting it? I was probably able to go
enjoy my football because of that.
Nothing occurred. Both when I first arrived and now that I am, I am happy to be here. Never once have I expressed that I’m in a hurry
to leave. “I’m having fun playing football, I’m scoring goals, and it’s not too bad that I lead the team every week.”
Shankland continues to be a Hearts talisman in spite of Rangers rumors.
After scoring his first goal for the team against Livingston on Saturday (3 February), Fabio Silva provided a timely reminder that he might be able to lead the line for Philippe Clement. However, he will need to bring in the closest striker available in the transfer window.
He scored two more goals and provided an assist for Hearts in their 3-2 victory over Dundee on Saturday, bringing his season total of goals scored in all competitions to 21. This served as a reminder of why the Rangers fan base coveted him.
However, the Light Blues are currently catching up to Celtic at the top of the table, and if Silva can maintain his form from the
weekend at Ibrox and Dessers keeps getting better, maybe the team will have enough players. If Shankland, Michy Batshuayi, or even
Antonio Colak had been among Clement’s options, most fans would have felt much more confident. However, the Belgian will have to
make do with what he has and whether the Scotland international is available for the summer or not, he appears to be vital to Steven
Naismith until then.
