Scotland’s Glasgow Rangers easily defeated Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox on Saturday in the Scottish Premiership to advance.

With a game remaining against their rivals, the Light Blues can get within three points of the top spot thanks to goals from Fabio Silva,

Rabbi Matondo, and Todd Cantwell.

There was one negative to come from the match, though, as experienced central defender Leon Balogun was forced off in the first half

and Philippe Clement has since confirmed that the veteran has a

“bad” injury and “probably” has something broken in his face.

The 35-year-old titan may now be headed for a period of time off before making

a potential comeback wearing a protective mask,

which creates space for another center back to fill in.

Leon King proved to be a surprise substitute for him, but John Souttar, who had replaced him off the bench,

put up a strong show, winning three of his four aerial duels.

Balogun’s defensive dominance this season

This season, the former enforcer for QPR has made 11 starts in the Premiership for the Gers,

and his commanding defensive play has drawn attention.

With an incredible 70% duel success rate, he has barely made a mistake. This indicates that opponents have had a very hard time defeating him in physical battles.

Rangers has preserved seven clean sheets in his 11 league games, and the seasoned ace’s 3.0 tackles and interceptions per game have

contributed to that. He often shuts off attacks to keep Jack Butland’s goal from being worked in.

The Nigerian titan may be sidelined for an extended period of time with this “bad” facial injury,

but King might emerge as a surprising substitute for him for that amount of time.

Leon King’s potential at Rangers

As he demonstrated on Saturday, 27-year-old Souttar is the dependable and experienced choice to take Balogun’s place at the back.

Alternatively, Clement might be brave and let the child go to give him essential experience that would aid in his growth.

King, 20, has not yet started a Premiership game this year and was not sent out

to play regular minutes elsewhere in the January transfer window.

In light of Balogun’s absence, the Belgian tactician need to unleash the Scotland youth international right away, as he demonstrated

promise in his little time playing for Michael Beale and Gio van Bronckhorst last season.
