Bold youngster Brandin Podziemski led

the Golden State Warriors to victory in

their first back-to-back games since

December, nearly completing a triple-

double as they defeated the Memphis

Grizzlies 121-101 on the road on Friday,

February 3.

When it came to the most assists a rookie

Warriors player has made in a single

game, Podziemski tied Stephen Curry’s

record. The Santa Clara product finished

with 12 points and 7 rebounds off the

bench and handed out 14 assists without

committing a foul.

When questioned about his career-high

14 assists during his postgame interview

with NBC Sports, Podziemski replied,

“I’m a point guard.” It’s simply what I’m

meant to accomplish. It’s my

responsibility to organize the team,

provide opportunities for others, and

foster the development of their

confidence.

“There are many plays where I could

have made layups, but instead I’ve

chosen to pass the ball to my teammates

to help them establish a rhythm.”

Despite being pleased with his highly

valued youngster, Steve Kerr, the head

coach of the Warriors, had a different

opinion on Podziemski.

Following the victory, Kerr told

reporters, “Brandin was great.” He’s just

a basketball player, after all. He is not a

shooting guard or a point guard. As a

mere basketball player, the additional

ball handling he provides on the court

while playing alongside Steph Curry is

crucial. We definitely need Steph to kind

of lead the team when he comes off the

bench. He simply knows how to play,

then. He’s only growing better and had a

fantastic debut season.

Brandin Podziemski is

anticipated to choose an all-

rookie team.

Barring a major injury, Podziemski is

sure to make the All-Star Rookie squad.

The 6-foot-4 rookie guard shoots 37.5%

from outside the arc and 46.6% from the

field, averaging 9.3 points, 5.5 rebounds,

and 3.5 assisst.
