Six-Time All-Star to Reunite With Celtics Is Requested
The Boston Celtics may try to re-sign a well-known player to help their chances of making the playoffs,
as they have one roster space remaining. Rob Greene of Sports Illustrated proposed that the Celtics sign
six-time NBA All-Star Blake Griffin.
Griffin’s rapport with the players and staff of the Celtics, which would influence a potential reunion,
was described by Greene.
“Griffith addressed how he and Stevens have maintained touch and mutual respect throughout
the years as they headed into the six-time All-Star’s only Celtics season last year. Griffin and several
Celtics players have also maintained strong relationships, according to Greene’s piece from February 1.
Greene then explained why the Celtics would add him. He included that what Griffin brings extends
beyond the basketball court.
“With this championship-eager Celtics’ roster, Griffin once again adds stability within the front court while
bolstering Boston’s interior for any remaining questions. His presence provides tremendous mentorship
while adding another fitting option for the second unit, likely the deepest team in the NBA.
With one open roster spot and limited options to fill it, a reunion with Griffin could prove
the Celtics’ most beneficial move.
During his time with the Los Angeles Clippers and Detroit Pistons, Griffin was a member of six NBA
All-Star teams. Griffin isn’t the same talent anymore, but in 2022–2023 he gave the Celtics solid
frontcourt depth.
Blake Griffin Enjoyed Being a Player in Boston
Blake Griffin enjoyed playing in Boston even though he made the decision not to rejoin the Celtics.
In an interview with Dan Rappoport of Barstool Sports, Griffin waxed poetic about his time spent
with the Celtics.
Boston is amazing, dude. Playing and living in Boston was pretty much the best thing I’ve ever done.
The fans are amazing, dude. having a team that is so intent on winning championships.
The fact that the players on that team are such a fantastic bunch of guys is one of their better qualities.
He was raving about the Celtics when he mentioned how much he respected Jayson Tatum.
Someone who is truly amazing, like Jayson Tatum, but also incredibly humble.
speaks with each member of the team. speaks with every employee.
He would go talk to anyone he was sitting with. He’s not only hanging out with
people like Jaylen Brown or Marcus Smart.
During his time with the Celtics, Griffin experienced the longest postseason run of his NBA career.
Celtics ‘Search for Additional Frontcourt Depth’: Report
Whether they target Blake Griffin or not, NBA Insider Marc Stein reported that they want more
frontcourt depth. However, Stein iterated that they aren’t willing to part with much.
“The Celtics, meanwhile, continue to search for additional frontcourt depth but might
have to rely on various trade exceptions to try to fill the void. Boston is said to be willing
only to part with players on the most nominal contracts in any potential upcoming moves,”
Stein wrote in a February 1 story.
Although Stein did not mention any names, nominal contracts most likely allude to players receiving
the veteran’s minimum salary, or anything close to it. The following athletes suit the description:
Lamar Stevens, Svi Mykhailiuk, Dalano Banton, Oshae Brissett, and Luke Kornet.
Although they don’t have many choices, trading most of those guys might
allow Griffin to make a comeback.
