Lee McCulloch was surprised as Fabio Silva followed up his first

Rangers goal with a “ridiculous” attempt that nearly resulted in a swift second.

On 3 February, the Wolves loanee broke the deadlock against Livingston by reacting quickly to a corner late in

the first half and turning it home with his left foot, and as the Ibrox fans celebrated,

he nearly scored a fantastic second from outside the box.

Ryan Jack slipped the Portuguese teenager in down the right wing,

and the 21-year-old unleashed an adventurous curling strike from range towards

the far post with the outside of his boot,

much to the delight of McCulloch, who was reacting live on BBC Radio Scotland.

McCulloch complained about the noise from the Ibrox stands (3.44pm):

“I can hardly hear. Silva has just been superbly passed in by Ryan Jack,

and he has made a tremendous effort with the outside of his right foot while running away from the goal.

“To be fair to him, it wasn’t that far. “It appears that he is playing with confidence.”

Silva puts some doubts to rest for Rangers.

Silva’s early loan arrival in the January window only seemed to address a portion of Philippe Clement’s extensive injury woes up front.

A new number nine appeared to be necessary before the deadline,

especially when Abdallah Sima’s goals were lost to injury,

since the 21-year-old had only scored once in the first half of the season.

However, his performance against Livi was remarkable,

indicating that he could be a viable alternative to the improving Cyriel Dessers in heading the Rangers line.

In addition to his goal, he connected play nicely in the first half and had an acrobatic second-half shot that nearly missed the post.

There will undoubtedly be more difficult trials ahead than David Martindale’s bottom side,

but in the first game since the market closed without the Light Blues landing a striker,

despite all of the  speculation over a run at Lawrence Shankland,

it was a welcome suggestion that Clement’s apparent satisfaction with the youngster as an option might be well founded.
