Rangers reaction: Defender’s ‘bad injury’, Celtic not mentioned, Livingston ‘astounded’ Silva opener stood
After Rangers’ decisive 3-0 Premiership victory against Livingston, manager Philippe Clement
disclosed that defender Leon Balogun “probably broke something in his face,” putting the team
within close proximity of leaders Celtic.
After a collision with Livi’s Shaun Donnellan after only 22 minutes at Ibrox,
the 35-year-old had to be replaced by John Souttar.
Before winger Rabbi Matondo scored a second goal in first-half added time,
Portuguese striker Fabio Silva, who joined Rangers on loan from Wolves last month,
opened his account against the team at the bottom of the league in the 40th minute.
Todd Cantwell, a midfielder for the Gers, scored his third goal in the 56th minute, putting
Clement’s team three points behind leaders Celtic with one game remaining.
After the match, when asked about Balogun, the Belgian replied, “Not good and good in a way.
” It is not good since he most likely shattered something in his face and it is a serious injury.
The good news is that he is a fighter and an experienced someone who has dealt with similar
situations in the past. He thinks he can return quickly.
