Kris Boyd excited by one new Rangers signing, explains why he ‘clearly has potential’

Rangers legend Kris Boyd believes the fact Lens paid £4 million for Oscar Cortes is proof of the Colombian’s ‘potential’ as the forward looks to make his mark at the Scottish Premiership challengers.

Rangers brought three players to Glasgow during the January transfer window,

with Oscar Cortes joining Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande on deadline day.

The Ligue 1 loanee is possibly the most fascinating.

It’s only been a few months since RC Lens, a club with a track record of signing rough diamonds and turning them into polished gems, committed £4 million to bring Cortes to France.

And, while the teenager only appeared in a few Ligue 1 games during the first half of the season,

Boyd believes the fact that he was signed by a club that discovered Cheick Doucoure,

Lois Openda, Kevin Danso, and others is proof enough of his ‘talent’.

“(Rangers manager Philippe) Clement will probably be 90% satisfied with his work in the window,” the former Ibrox striker tells the Scottish Sun.

“Mohamed Diomande appears to be a good signing, while Oscar Cortes provides another attacking option.

“The Colombian kid will need time to adjust.

But (Cortes) definitely has promise, considering RC Lens paid £4 million for him last summer.

Cortes scored six goals and assisted three others in his final 19 games for Millionaires in Colombia.

The right-footed forward’s quick pace and power-packed shoots could help offset the loss of Abdallah Sima,

who is out for the foreseeable future due to an injury sustained while playing in the African Cup of Nations.

If there is one area of the Rangers squad that appears to be lacking in numbers,

it is at centre-forward, where the revitalized Cyriel Dessers is currently carrying the can alone.

“Fabio Silva was in the building early and, while he can play as a number nine,

Rangers are still light in that area,” Boyd goes on to say.

“With Danilo, Kemar Roofe, and Abdallah Sima injured, Cyriel Dessers will have a lot of pressure.

“That is one area Clement could have done with strengthening.”

Rangers will host Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
