Kris Boyd excited by one new Rangers signing, explains why he ‘clearly has potential’
The fact that Lens paid £4 million for Oscar Cortes, according to Rangers legend Kris Boyd, is evidence of the Colombian forward’s
“potential” as he attempts to establish himself at the Scottish Premiership contenders.
Oscar Cortes joined Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande as one of the three players Rangers brought to Glasgow on deadline day in
the January transfer season. Of them, the Ligue 1 loanee is arguably the most interesting.
After all, it has only been a few months since RC Lens, a team with a strong reputation for acquiring rough diamonds and polishing
them into polished jewels, spent £4 million to get Cortes for France.
Even if the young player didn’t play in many Ligue 1 matches in the first half of the season, Boyd thinks that his signing by a team that
discovered Kevin Danso, Lois Openda, Cheick Doucoure, and others is sufficient evidence of his “potential.”
Rangers sign Oscar Cortes on loan from Lens
The former Ibrox striker tells the Scottish Sun that “(Rangers manager Philippe) Clement will probably be 90 per cent happy with his
work in the window.” Oscar Cortes provides another offensive player, and Mohamed Diomande appears to be a good addition.
The Colombian child will require some time to adjust. But given that RC Lens paid £4 million for Cortes last summer, it’s obvious that
he has promise.
Throughout his final 19 appearances with Millionaires in Colombia, Cortes notched six goals and assisted on three more. With his
quick pace and powerful shoots, the right-footed attacker could help make up for Abdallah Sima’s absence. Sima will be sidelined for
some time due to an injury he sustained while playing for the African Cup of Nations.
Philippe Clement short of strikers
If there’s one position on the Rangers team that appears a touch thin on numbers, it could be center forward, where the rejuvenated
Cyriel Dessers is currently carrying the load by himself.
Boyd continues, “Fabio Silva can play as a number nine, but Rangers are still light in that area. He was in the building early.” “With
Danilo, Kemar Roofe, and Abdallah Sima hurt, Cyriel Dessers will be under a lot of strain.
“That’s one thing Clement could have done better.”
Livingston visits Rangers on Saturday afternoon at 3pm at Ibrox.
