Derek Ferguson has stated that Rangers will not be permitted to take rock-bottom Livingston lightly,

despite many people believing the Ibrox game is a “gimme”.

The in-form Gers host struggling Livi to Ibrox on Saturday,

hoping to win a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership and put the pressure on rivals and leaders Celtic.

Livi are six points from safety after drawing 2-2 with 11th-place Ross County last time out,

and avoiding loss against Rangers would be a huge upset.

Ferguson, a former Rangers player, told Ibrox News that there should be some caution,

especially given the visitors’ precarious position at the foot of the table.

“Livingston are fighting for their lives,

they had a decent result against County because they had to come from behind a couple of times,

so you’ve always just to be wary of that,” Ferguson went on to say.

“On paper, it appears to be a simple day’s job for Rangers,

but these are the ones that may bite you in the backside.

“I think that’s the beauty of our management;

I don’t think he’ll let the players rest for a moment; they won’t take Livingston lightly.

“They’ll be professional, but they’ll need to play well to overcome Livingston,

who have an excellent attitude under David Martindale.

“Is the quality there?” Maybe not, but you have to be careful with these games because everyone thinks it’s a given.”
Philippe Clement will ensure that Rangers do not relax.

Rangers are in terrific form, and it would be shocking if they did not win against a team that has only two league victories all season.

But complacency can be deadly, especially in a title chase,

so Ferguson is entirely correct to warn against thinking the job is already done.

Rangers must approach this encounter like any other and show Livingston appropriate respect because the last thing they want at this point is to wind up with the proverbial egg on their faces.
