Gers can add extra new face to Europa League squad in Clement boost, he signed in ’22
Never one to mince words, Philippe Clement makes no bones about his judgment of the European team he took over at Rangers.
The Gers manager, who plays from the hip, had a difficult choice to make regarding his
Europa League roster after adding three new players.
Clement has another alternative for Rangers now should we see a repeat of that crisis.
How Philippe Clement can solve Rangers defensive cover issue
Instead, once the Croatian was hurt, Clement made a tactical switch that, despite the odds, produced a very respectable outcome.
Speaking during the pregame warm-up for Livingston’s visit today, he still has concerns about the following:
“Although I wasn’t entirely on board with the European list before the season started, it was what it was,
and there are currently just three adjustments I can make.
“So the reality is a few players I wanted on the list cannot be on the list.”
Given the long-term injuries to Danilo, Abdallah Sima, and Kemar Roofe, one would anticipate that the three permitted changes
would entail the addition of new players Mohamed Diomande, Fabio Silva, and Oscar Cortes.
However, Clement had to select Ridvan Yilmaz this time around because Michael Beale left him
out and Adam Devine is currently on loan.
The other problem is at center-half where Ben Davies is injured; despite being one
of the manager’s most used players, Leon Balogun is unable to enter the team.
Which leaves just Connor Goldson and John Souttar as the fit, senior options backed up by Leon King.
Unless….
Johnly Yfeko, an academy talent, wasn’t on the team Clement inherited.
Throughout his tenure with the team, the massive defender has filled the positions of left back and left center back. He is undoubtedly a player of the future.
Two years have passed since his signing on January 31st, which implies that the 20-year-old
can now be included in squads on match days and be eligible for the B list.
Nonetheless, you can’t help but feel bad for Oscar Cortes and Leon Balogun, who are both sure
to be in the majority of European matchday teams.
It seems like Philippe Clement is a management who is unwilling to repeat past errors.
