Brendan Rodgers denies that Celtic have handed Rangers initiative in title race-report
After their disappointing draw at Pittodrie, Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers refuted claims
that his team had given Rangers the upper hand in the Premiership championship race,
stating that his team is still competitive and has a long way to go.
Rangers might tie the champions at the top of the league with the points they leaked,
if they managed to defeat Livingston at Ibrox later in the day and then triumph in their next
match against Ross County. Rodgers, though, isn’t concerned about his squad losing
steam and getting sucked in by their opponents just yet.
Have we given Rangers the upper hand? No, that’s not at all, said Rodgers.
“Listen, there are still a lot of goals to pursue and a long way to go. All we need to do
is establish more consistency and give ourselves more attention.
“We played our game with terrific speed before to the break. That is essential for every game.
“We weren’t very good last week, but we still prevailed. We didn’t play well today, and the result was a tie.
We need to reach a steady level once more as we are conceding too many points.
“I would never argue that this is a successful outcome. As I have done since taking over as Celtic manager,
I always come here to win.
“I usually anticipate doing it. I’m never sure if I’ll accept the point, I expect to win.
